Why do some titan defenders do this?

Picture this : You are on the titan and you have your wee tent out, camp fire lit and are getting ready to toast some marshmallows. Then on the mini map u see a transport suddenly appear and you think yay here they come, you kill 2 or 3 of them and think right they'll be back soon enough but they aren't. So you sit and wait, and wait then you wait some more but still no action or points. Its all a bit dissapointing. ?(

Its probably because one of your fellow defenders has either blown up the enemy transport or jumped in and out of it, probably thinking if they cant get onto the titan they cant blow it up. But defenders need the enemy to get onto the titan if they are to score any points. It has happened soooo many times to me now that it really is starting to bug me :ranting:

If you are one of these people plz dont do it, you probably will find that you get more points that way :D

More points, yes, but you're risking the win or loss of the game. Some people want the points, some people want the wins.

You have to see it from two different perspectives:

1: Do you want points from defending the onslaught of enemy troops, or

2: Do you want to keep all enemy from even setting foot on your ship, in order to help assure victory?

Im sure most people, myself included, like option 1 better. Ive resorted to destroying the enemy transport, but thats usually because theres already two of them on my ship, some enemy spawn beacons, and/or an APC on the ground with a steady stream of guys podding up to the ship.

If your win/loss ration is hurting (like mine), taking an easy win doesnt seem too bad either.

It's my opinion that destroying landing transports is the first priority, being that the general mob is more inclined to spawn on top of a Titan than inside an APC near it, giving defenders an easier time. Or more accurately, needing less defenders on the Titan so that more people can attack and take silos.

I blow them up aswell, I play for the team and the victory ... not for my own 'points', I don't really think the game is ment just so you can 'earn some points', it's all about teamwork. The points will come if you do a decent job, there is no need to let people on your titan simply because you want some easy points ...

Where did I mention anything about getting EASY points? I didn't. I just dont like running around a titan bored out of my skull with 5 or 6 other people who are all on my team, who are also probably bored out of their skulls too for like 10 minutes. Does that sound like fun to you? Not to mention the fact that after running about for 10 mins MOST of the folk who have decided to defend bugger off to do summit else leaving 1 or 2 defenders left who then have to cope with a full transport that slipped by the AA guns, and then proceed to get raped big time and by the time more help arrives, oops too late our cores just been obliterated by the 6 recon guys and 1 support guy.
And BTW is BF2142 not a POINT orientated game? I think u need points to get unlocks and gain rank if I am not mistaken, so the game is meant to allow players to "earn some points"

As much is it is nice to keep them from getting on the titan, I for one am a little annoyed with this behavior as well. I have been ready for some time now to get my Titan Defenders Gold Badge andif they can't get on the titan, I won't get my 30 defend points. So in reality your not helping anyone with your behavior.

i dont understand why people sit there and wait..why u dont get in the vehicle for a second and then get out? so the enemy cant use it as spawnpoint anymore?

Which is a defender doing his/her job. What is defense if you actually allow the enemy to get in? Sure you think you have a great defensive plan all laid out. APM here, turrets there, with supplies and medical hubs here and there, with you and a trusty <insert weapon>, but for all your preparations all it takes is one foolish (or insanely smart) enemy to screw up all your plans. And while you're waiting around to respawn, this clever enemy has destroyed at least 1~2 consoles, placed a spawn beacon (which you've got to hunt down), and invited half their side to "camp out" and mine places where you're going to show up. And within a blink of an eye, you're dead again. Maybe it's that APM that you couldn't see or it was a combination of a well placed turret with a gunner just waiting for you to pop around the corner, etc.

Bottom line is that a defender doing his/her job properly means that NO enemies are getting on your titan and thus if they do board, they are quickly dispatched and their ability to get back on isn't as simple as selecting a spawning site.

What you are suggesting (allowing the spawn points to exist) is so that you can camp. A practice known as Spawn Camping, which in my book is as bad as stat padding. But let's not end there, how would it feel if I (the enemy) camped where you are going to spawn every time, over and over, again and again. I rack up tons of points and you get to suffer that 15 second spawn timer over and over again throughout the entire match. How does that feel? Yeah, I bet that doesn't feel to good does it?

Next, did you ever look at the score board closely? You get double, let me repeat that DOUBLE the points if you win. So you get 25 kills on a titan defense (which equates to 50 points), but I get 20 kills on titan offense (which equates to 40 points) however, my side won so instead of getting 40 points, I get 80 points. Now which side is the loser? Exactly. So get off your comfortable hidden hole and get in that fray solider. This ain't no game (well it is) so get out there and make 'em count.

After all it what General Patton said:

I kill anything that sets foot on my titan. the less defenders we need the more attackers we have so we can win the game..Oh my what a concept.. winning instead of stat padding.....wow

And Chispa one thing you wrote in your comments is wrong... You do NOT get double points if your side wins. ONLY the commander gets double points for winning not every player on the team. But otherwise I agree with your post. If your playing defense then defend.not let the enemy on hoping you get alot of kills. Once they defeat your defenses your screwed. You wont have time to set up another defense inbetween spawn times and the time to get below decks into the hallways.

Hang on, i'll just come up and get myself shredded in one of the many corridors or stumble into one of the many booby traps awaiting me on your titan! Or you can just dream on? Perhaps i will just keep control of the silos while you and your mates are camping up there waiting for me!

Or, better yet, you could lace the transport with RDX and wait for some unsuspecting noobs to spawn in it.

Points + destroying the transport. :)

that would be me blowing up the transport by dropping an assault pod right on top of one. sometimes, i hit them before they have a chance to land on the titan. then i move in behind them and clear out any enemies that have gotten aboard.

either way, a clean titan is a happy titan.

Ultimately it comes down to what people want to achieve...

From reading the posts above me, it is clear that there are 2 distinct sides to the issue.

There is one side who wants the kills and points from defending. Hence, they would rather leave the enemy titan on their ship to give them as much opportunities to fulfil these goals.

On the other hand, there are the people who want to protect the titan as much as possible. Thus, everything that gives the enemy the chance to damage the titan is minimised.

Of course, there is no CORRECT way to play. Moreover, BF2142 is merely a game we all want to enjoy and how we choose to enjoy it is our business, which is fair enough.

Personally, I would just go with the flow and respect how everyone wants to play the game. Afterall, I and I hope everyone else have other pressing matters to worry about

I thought this only applied to commanders?

Sorry if this is wrong, but I just presumed it to be the case from BF2?

i always wait. on the upper level corridor, with my sentry turret facing the drop entrance....

then i'll lay waste my Bianchi to anybody that rush the cargo bay or going into the reactor room...

when...or rather IF :P if i die, i jump using the pod, land on their airtransport to stop people spawning, and attack from behind... most of them ussually dont realize im coming from behind.... and finish the job.

did that trick just now and received 36-4 K/D lol

i love support for defending...

yeah just come from a game where probably half the enemy team and half of my own were defending. couldn't find where the spawn beacon was, but got it eventually. was briefly managable. then they got back on and the process repeated. total carnage but i did manage to get my gold knifing badgel.

destroying their spawn points in my opinion is the first priority, if there is already lots on the titan then it just allows the rest of your team a bit of breathing space to set everything back up. can see why people would rather have some actual work to do abd get some points but i see the objective of each round being to win. although i'm sure some people will say that getting gold is winning, meh thats just a bonus. if you don't take those spawns out you could very well get over run. they destroy the core and you would have earnt more points just having a slow flow of a handful of players because the game lasted twice as long

noone said you guys have to stay on the titan.
stop worrying about 3 kills and points and win the round. Your team wants to win not bait people on titan for easy defend points
